Project overview

Walking together

The Country-Centred Circular Economy model, or Australian Indigenous Doughnut, emerged in 2023 as an alternative to the Doughnut that centres Indigenous ways of knowing and engaging with Country. We are working with the co-creators of this model to explore how the ethos of relationality, which sits at the heart of Indigenous knowledge systems, can be applied to regenerative practices. We are doing so primarily through collaborative research, formalised with an industry PhD model. This research is identifying gaps in existing, western frameworks and, through case studies grounded in Regen Melbourne’s work. The case studies will contribute to understanding how Indigenous knowledge can be adopted in practice, enhancing connections to Country and regenerative outcomes. In addition to this deep research, we have co-delivered ‘Walking Together’ events with the Australian Indigenous Doughnut co-creators to raise awareness about the model and its application in practice.

Our role

Learning Partner

We are serving as an industry supervisor and research partner through the industry PhD program to further develop and progress the application of the Australian Indigenous Doughnut. We are also supporting Dinadj in advisory and engagement roles.
