How can arts and culture, existing infrastructure along the river and citizen science be leveraged to collect required data to develop a water quality baseline for the river whilst taking the community on an educational journey about the river.

This project seeks to develop a water quality baseline of the river through collaboration with community, institutions, technical experts and businesses along the river. This requires understanding current gaps in water quality monitoring along the river catchment, working with institutions currently responsible for collecting this data and exploring strategic locations particularly existing infrastructure along the river as potential monitoring sites. Further, it connects research to practice seeking to create new ways of developing and translating open source data.
To facilitate cross sectoral partnerships and create opportunities for new measurement projects to be implemented on the Birrarung.

Proposal for the initial phase of this project has been prepared. This includes partnering with a business on the river in the city reaches, installation of monitoring equipment and using an art installation to make this data accessible and educational.
